The West Virginia State Tax Department recently released a notice that vendors should not collect Wardensville or Wayne's municipal sales and use taxes.

Earlier this year the State Tax Department released information that the Towns of Wardensville and Wayne had adopted ordinances requiring vendors to collect municipal sales and use taxes beginning July 1, 2017. This was an error.

Review by the Tax Commissioner revealed that some of the statutory requirements for the collection of the taxes had not been met. All notices sent regarding the Wardensville and Wayne municipal sales and use tax should be disregarded, and the vendors should not collect municipal sales and use taxes.
