Exempt Entities

The Ohio Department of Taxation has amended a rule on an exemption for items attached to or incorporated into vehicles for use by moving companies.

Ohio exempts vehicle parts sold for use in highway transportation for hire. This includes sales to moving companies. The amended rule provides examples of taxable and exempt items. Taxable items include pads, dollies and carts, piano boards, ladders, refrigerator covers, rug runners, and rubber bands and bungee cords. Exempt items include spring-loaded logistic straps, decking bars, auto tie downs, tie down straps, walkboards, and padlocks and seal locks.

The rule also notes that purchases including both taxable and exempt items are taxable unless the charges are separately stated.
