Many states, including Indiana, tax the sale of candy. Candy is defined as preparations of sugar, honey, or other natural or artificial sweeteners in combination with chocolate, fruits, nuts, or other ingredients or flavorings in the form of bars, drops, or pieces. However, candy containing flour is not considered candy for sales tax purposes. Many items commonly thought of as candy contain flour and are not subject to sales tax in Indiana. Some items that contain flour include Kit-Kat Bars, Nestle Crunch Bars, and Twix Bars.
