The Florida Department of Revenue ("DOR") provided guidance explaining that participation fees charged to bridge game participants are taxable.

A bridge league charged players to participate in bridge games. Spectators were allowed to watch the games for no charge.

The DOR explained that the fees to participate in the game were taxable. It also noted that if the spectators were charged a fee to watch the game, the charge to the spectators would be taxable, and the charge to the participants would be not subject to tax.
