Kansas Released Notice on Liability Relief from Taxability Matrix Changes

Wednesday, July 15th, 2015

Kansas Department of Revenue

The Kansas Department of Revenue has released a notice discussing the liability relief available to sellers who rely on incorrect data found in the state's Streamlined Sales & Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA) Matrix. The state will relieve sellers from liability to state and local taxes for having charged and collected incorrect tax as a result of incorrect data in the "Library of Definitions" and "Tax Administration Practices" sections of the SSUTA Matrix.

Additionally, if the state amends existing provisions in either of these sections, and a seller relied on the previous versions of these sections, the state provides limited relief. In this situation, the seller is relieved from liability of incorrectly collected tax until the first day of the calendar month that is at least 30 days after a notice of changes is sent to the SSUTA governing board.
