Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick recently signed a bill passed by the Massachusetts Legislature, setting the date for the 2012 sales tax holiday. 2012 Mass. Acts ch. 238. Beginning on August 11, 2012 and ending on August 12, 2012, state sales tax would not be imposed on non-business retail sales of tangible personal property of $2,500 or less. Sevices and items that are normally subject to an excise tax, such as telecommunications, tobacco products, gas, steam, electricity, motor vehicles, motorboats, and meals are excluded from this sales tax holiday, so they will still be subject to their excise tax during the sales tax holiday.
