Michigan Exempts Prosthetic Devices for Human Implantation

Mar 9th, 2020

Effective March 3, 2020, Michigan exempts sales of prosthetic devices for human implantation to hospitals and freestanding surgical outpatient facilities. "Prosthetic device" means a replacement, corrective, or supportive device worn in or on the body. The prosthetic device must do one of the following: (1) artificially replace a missing portion of the body, (2) prevent or correct a physical deformity or malfunction of the body, or (3) support a weak or deformed portion of the body. This exemption includes repair or replacement parts of prosthetic devices but does not include contact lenses and dental prosthesis.
