Florida recently adopted an emergency rule that exempts building materials used to repair certain types of damage caused by Hurricane Irma. The exemption is only available through a tax refund and only applies to qualifying materials purchased between September 10, 2017, and May 31, 2018.

The exemption applies to materials used to repair (1) fencing located on agricultural land that was damaged by Hurricane Irma and (2) nonresidential farm buildings damaged by Hurricane Irma. To claim the exemption, buyers should pay tax on their purchases and then submit an application for refund (Form DR-26SIAG).
