The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts recently ruled that video streaming and add-on services are taxable as cable television and amusement services.

Texas taxes cable television and amusement services. Cable television services include the distribution of video programming and streaming video programming over the internet or other technology. "Amusement service" means providing amusement, entertainment, or recreation including electronic games.

The service provider offered video streaming channels and enhancements such as chat or other interactive features for a monthly fee. The Comptroller ruled that these monthly fees were taxable cable television and amusement services.
