The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts recently released information about tax-free sales days for certain nonprofit organizations and their officially recognized chapters.

Each calendar year, organizations that have been granted a sales tax exemption by the Comptroller's office can have two one-day tax-free sales. These sales can last up to 24 consecutive hours each.

During a tax-free sale day, organizations may sell taxable items worth up to $5,000 without collecting tax if the items were either made by or donated to the organizations. Also, organizations may purchase items for a tax-free sales day without paying tax by providing the seller with either a resale or exemption certificate.
