Effective January 1, 2018, California is extending its partial manufacturing exemption to include power generation equipment.

Currently the partial exemption applies to machinery and equipment used at any stage in the manufacturing, processing, refining, fabricating, or recycling of tangible personal property.

Beginning January 1, 2018, the partial exemption will also apply to equipment, machinery, parts, and operating structures used in generating, producing, storing, or distributing electricity. The partial exemption does not apply to machinery and equipment used in the transmission of electricity. The exemption also applies only to the buyer's first $200,000,000 of purchases in a given year.
